1047 Games announced that the beta test for Splitgate 2 will finish on December 4th. They also shared on Steam that the full launch of Splitgate 2 is planned for later in December.
With the beta phase for Splitgate 2 now finished, the current season and any active Battle Passes will also be ending. Players who participated in the beta will unfortunately lose the progress they made on their seasonal ranks.
Besides the December relaunch date for Splitgate 2, 1047 Games hasn’t shared many details about the update. The studio has likely made significant changes based on player feedback since announcing plans to rework the multiplayer shooter in July.
When the developers first announced plans to update the game, they said they would listen to player feedback before releasing Splitgate 2. They also promised to continue supporting the current version of the game with all planned updates, including the upcoming Chapter 3. However, they indicated that Splitgate 2 wouldn’t launch until sometime in 2026.
Honestly, as a fan, it’s good to hear the CEO, Ian Proulx, admit things weren’t ready. He basically said the game felt more like a beta test than a finished product when it launched, and they knew it. There were just too many bugs and important features missing – things you’d expect in a completed game. They’re essentially starting over to fix it all, which, while disappointing, feels like the right call.
The main improvements planned for Splitgate 2 center around three key areas: adding fundamental features like leaderboards and a better progression system, increasing the number of surfaces players can create portals on, and refining the existing game modes. While leaderboards and progression are fairly straightforward additions, the team was still considering the best approach to adjusting the game modes.
We’re really aiming to recapture the feel of traditional arena-style gameplay. While we’ve experimented with round-based modes and will continue to offer some, we know players ultimately want a fast-paced experience where they can shoot things, have fun, and occasionally focus on objectives.
Just one day after announcing layoffs—affecting a small number of its team members—the studio revealed that Splitgate 2 would be returning to development for a relaunch. They described those impacted by the layoffs as “valued” team members, but didn’t specify exactly how many people were affected.
