Spy x Family Takes a Huge Leap in Operation Strix’s Success

Just a heads-up: if you’re reading this and haven’t kept up with the Spy x Family manga, there will be spoilers! The anime recently finished its third season in December 2025, and everyone’s eager to hear about a possible continuation. Meanwhile, the manga storyline is really heating up, especially since last year’s Term Break Arc introduced us to Donovan Desmond, who seems to be the big bad. The anime is still pretty early in the story, but the manga has thrown in a lot of twists and turns since then. Donovan is proving to be a really enigmatic and dangerous character. Because of his power in Ostania and what he’s been up to, he’s become a major focus for Westalian Intelligence (WISE) – that’s the spy organization Twilight works for. Twilight’s mission, and WISE’s overall goal, is to keep the peace between Westalis and Ostania and prevent another war.

Loid Forger created his fake family and adopted Anya solely to get close to Donovan Desmond as part of Operation Strix. Although Loid has only met Desmond once, and that meeting didn’t seem to help much, getting into Desmond’s inner circle requires Anya to earn eight Stella Stars and become an Imperial Scholar. Recent events in Chapter 127, Part 2, suggest Anya has made significant progress, bringing Loid much closer to achieving the goals of Operation Strix.

Anya Only Needs Four More Stella to Become an Imperial Scholar

When Henry Henderson was accused of taking bribes, Anya and her friends decided to investigate and find out what really happened. They successfully cleared their teacher’s name and uncovered the wrongdoing of Murdoch Swan. As a reward for their courage in Chapter 127 Part 2, each of the kids received a Stella, bringing Anya and Damian’s totals to four each. Anya is now halfway to her goal of becoming an Imperial Scholar, needing just four more Stella to achieve it.

Donovan is a very private person, and only socializes with the Imperial Scholars and their families. Loid needs to get close to this group to learn more about what Donovan is doing, and the only way to do that is for Anya to become an Imperial Scholar – that’s been Loid’s main goal from the start. It would have been simpler if Anya were naturally gifted academically, but she has other strengths. Her courage and determination have gotten her this far, and that’s what matters.

Loid’s Biggest Mission in Spy x Family Won’t Go As He Planned

Operation Strix is facing potential complications because of Donovan’s abilities. In the latest chapter, Melinda reveals a shocking secret to Loid: she believes her husband has been replaced by an alien. She explains Donovan’s sudden change in personality years ago, his telepathic powers, and his link to Sigmund, suggesting a larger plot Loid doesn’t know about. While it’s not certain Donovan is an alien, his telepathic abilities are plausible, as similar powers already exist within the world of Spy x Family.

A powerful enemy who can read minds poses a much greater threat to Operation Strix than anyone expected. This is especially problematic for Loid, who has already encountered this villain. Loid often thinks through everything in detail, and this could have allowed Donovan to discover all of his secrets during their first meeting. If Donovan truly is a telepath, he likely already knows Loid’s true identity and is aware of those opposing him.

Loid is unaware of the strange abilities at play, essentially operating without any real information. After meeting Donovan, it’s clear Donovan isn’t interested in Loid and doesn’t see him as a threat. This means Donovan may already be plotting against Loid and WISE. Loid continues to question whether these powers even exist, but his skepticism could be his downfall. If they meet again, Loid will likely reveal his strategies without realizing it, potentially ruining Operation Strix.
