Square Enix has been releasing new merchandise, building up to what fans hope will be an announcement of a remake. This follows a series of item releases celebrating the series’ 30th anniversary in 2025.
Chrono Trigger is a hugely popular game, frequently considered one of the best video games of all time. However, Square Enix has been hesitant to create a fully updated version for current gaming systems, aside from the troubled Steam release and mobile versions.
Chrono Trigger Personal Markers Are Here
Square Enix launched the Chrono Trigger: One Mark Collection on March 27th. It’s a set of keychains and bookmarks featuring the game’s characters, with two different designs for each character, plus a bonus, surprise item.
The Chrono Trigger: One Mark Collection is currently only available in Japan as a rare prize from gashapon (toy vending) machines. For fans in North America and Europe, the best option right now is to buy them used, though there’s hope Square Enix might release them in other regions later on.
Last year, Square Enix marked the 30th anniversary of Chrono Trigger with an orchestral concert featuring the game’s beloved music. They also released a special vinyl box set with art by the late Akira Toriyama. Fans enjoyed these releases, but many are hoping for an even larger celebration of the game in the years to come.
A Chrono Trigger Remake Could Be On the Way

However, Square Enix doesn’t consistently focus on anniversaries. Many fans hoped the rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake would be revealed in 2025, coinciding with the game’s 25th anniversary, but no announcement was made. While recent reports suggest development may have been halted, Square Enix could still revisit the project and release it sometime soon.
Fans of Chrono Trigger would likely get excited about a remake announcement any time, so Square Enix might be planning one. With their schedule looking fairly open in 2026, even if a remake isn’t revealed immediately, it’s probable the company has significant projects coming up.
