Square Enix, a well-known video game company, recently hinted at upcoming installments in some of its long-running series. The company itself was formed in 2003, but its roots go back much further. It was created by merging SquareSoft, founded in 1986, and Enix, which began in 1975. Although Enix started in the 70s, its first games, Door Door and The Portopia Serial Murder Case, both came out in 1985. While these early titles weren’t hugely impactful, they paved the way for Enix to become a major player in the gaming world.
In 1986, Enix released Dragon Quest (also known as Dragon Warrior) for the NES, marking their third game on the platform. Unlike their previous two titles, Dragon Quest has remained popular and is still enjoyed by fans today. While the Final Fantasy series, which debuted a year later through Square, is Square Enix’s most famous RPG, Dragon Quest is often one of the first series people associate with the company. Fortunately for fans, there’s plenty more Dragon Quest content on the way.
More Than One Dragon Quest Project In the Works
Yosuke Saito, a long-time producer at Square Enix, has returned to lead the Dragon Quest series after a short break. He hinted at exciting new projects that are sure to impress fans, saying they’ll be something to “woah” about.
Square Enix is celebrating 40 years of Dragon Quest! The producer, speaking with Gematsu, expressed excitement about this milestone. After taking a break from the Dragon Quest team following Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, they returned in April 2024 to lead new Dragon Quest projects as part of a company restructuring. They’re currently working on several things and promise to share more details soon, adding that they’re eager to deliver exciting new experiences and appreciate fans’ support.
So, that’s pretty much all the info we got, and honestly, it’s a little vague. I have no clue what these projects even are, or when they might actually come out. They didn’t even say if Dragon Quest XII is one of them! As a Dragon Quest fan, I’m definitely hyped, but I’m really craving some more details. It sounds like good things are coming, but we’re still in the dark about a lot.
