Regardless of what people think about The Super Mario Bros. Movie (it currently has a Metascore of 36), the reaction to Fox McCloud from Star Fox appearing in the film has been largely positive. Before the movie came out, a reliable source, NateTheHate, said a new Star Fox game in a classic style is planned for release this summer, which is great news for fans who haven’t seen a new game in the series since 2016.
Although specific information is limited, Nintendo appears to be prioritizing humor in the game’s writing. Alex Donaldson of VGC recently mentioned hearing the game is “really funny,” suggesting a stronger emphasis on the story and a fresh approach compared to past titles.
While the idea of animal characters battling in space might seem silly, it’s not necessarily a bad thing. However, given Nintendo’s recent attempt to add humor to the Metroid Prime 4: Beyond game through its supporting characters, it remains to be seen if this new approach will work well.
Switch 2 fans have even more to be excited about! A new Nintendo Direct is expected in June, where we’ll likely learn the release dates for Splatoon Raiders, Rhythm Heaven Groove, and Switch Sports. There’s also talk of a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake possibly releasing around the holidays, and the next 3D Mario game is rumored to be coming in 2027. Plus, FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods might launch later this year, too.
