Star Wars fans are passionately trying to revive a canceled movie idea about the character Ben Solo. After actor Adam Driver mentioned Disney had scrapped the project, fans launched a campaign to convince the studio to reconsider. Despite the news coming out weeks ago, interest in the canceled film continues to build.
Demand for Star Wars Ben Solo movie reaches the streets and skies
Okay, so this is a bit wild! Apparently, a plane flew over Disney’s offices in Burbank today with a banner demanding they release “The Hunt for Ben Solo.” From what I understand, that was the original working title for the scrapped project – you know, the one that would have explored Kylo Ren’s backstory. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting on it, and honestly, it’s fascinating to see fans taking things this far! It just shows how much interest there still is in that story.
Last October, Adam Driver revealed in an interview with the Associated Press that he and director Steven Soderbergh had been developing a story focused on his Star Wars character, Ben Solo. This project would have taken place after the events of The Rise of Skywalker (2019), despite his character’s death in the film. Soderbergh initially created the story with Rebecca Blunt, and Lucasfilm showed enthusiasm after hearing their pitch. They then brought in Scott Z. Burns to write the screenplay, which Driver described as “one of the coolest scripts I had ever been a part of.”
The team presented their script to Lucasfilm, and they were very enthusiastic about it, fully grasping the team’s vision and reasoning. However, when they took it to Disney, executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman rejected it because they couldn’t accept the idea that Ben Solo was still alive. After that, the project was dropped.
Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) is a favorite character for many Star Wars fans, and they’ve been actively trying to convince Disney to revisit his story. This has included creative efforts like posting fake “missing person” posters featuring actor Adam Driver’s character in cities like New York and Los Angeles. While fans continue these campaigns, the planned project, ‘The Hunt for Ben Solo,’ is still currently canceled.
