Star Wars’ Most Powerful Character Never Made It to Live-Action

In a distant galaxy lies a vibrant world teeming with diverse personalities. Though the Jedi and Sith often grab the spotlight due to their extraordinary powers, it’s important to remember that many other characters without lightsabers contribute significantly to the Star Wars universe. Characters like Chewbacca and Han Solo played crucial roles in the destruction of not one, but three major threats: the Death Stars, as well as Starkiller Base. Boba Fett made a name for himself as the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunter without possessing telekinetic abilities. These characters may not be able to challenge the strongest Star Wars characters with their powers, but there is another non-Force-user who can fill that void.

Although it’s not a traditional big-budget film, Star Wars: The Clone Wars boasts numerous significant scenes. Many of these moments revolve around Emperor Palpatine’s Separatist forces attempting to outmaneuver the Jedi, but one menace leaves even the Dark Lord of the Sith bewildered. This mysterious danger emerges in Season 2 and instills terror in anyone who encounters it.

The Zillo Beast Teaches the Republic a Lesson in Star Wars: The Clone Wars

During the Clone Wars, the Republic is finding it hard to gather all the necessary resources, so they send Anakin Skywalker and Mace Windu to Malastare to secure fuel supplies. The Separatists are anticipating them, creating a challenging situation even with the clone troops at their side. In order to level the battlefield, Palpatine proposes deploying electro-proton bombs that can disable all droids. These bombs prove effective, but they unintentionally stir up something massive living beneath Malastare’s surface: the fearsome Zillo Beast. This colossal reptile-like creature starts wreaking havoc, and a Dug suggests using the fuel to eliminate it. It is later discovered that Zillo Beasts once ruled Malastare, but when the Dugs started draining fuel, these beasts started dying off.

The Jedi are wary about destroying an endangered monster, as they see potential value in its armor for the Republic military. Anakin suggests this possibility. Palpatine insists on examining the creature on Coruscant, disregarding Windu’s reservations. Eventually, he manages to secure the politician’s request, commanding Doctor Sionver Boll to kill the creature upon arrival. However, as soon as Boll unleashes some gas, the beast breaks free and charges towards Palpatine, sensing his intention to harm it. The Zillo Beast demonstrates both its power and intelligence by locating the Senate building and attempting to kill Palpatine. In a close call, Palpatine narrowly escapes. It takes several Jedi to keep the beast occupied while gunships release gas to subdue it finally. With Coruscant secure again, Palpatine remains determined with regards to the Zillo Beast.

The Zillo Beast Has Real Beef With the Dark Side

In the Empire, researchers successfully duplicate the Zillo Beast and transport it to Mount Tantiss. Another replica, named Omega, encounters this creature in the same lab and sets it free to divert Imperial attention while she and her comrades flee. Simultaneously, Darth Vader, previously Anakin Skywalker and a powerful Sith Lord, clashes with the Benathy – an alien race unafraid of confronting the Empire. The Benathy don’t conquer the Empire, but they do force Darth Vader to retreat, tail between his legs. For years, the method the Benathy used to counteract the Dark Side remains a secret until it is revealed in the “Kylo Ren” comic book series during the Age of Resistance.

In another rendition of events: When the First Order clashes with the Benathy, they aspire for a peaceful settlement. Yet, Ren isn’t keen on a friendly sing-along, so he chooses to confront the divine entity that the Benathy revere, which surprisingly is a colossal Zillo Beast. In an attempt to win his grandfather’s approval, Ren leaps into the beast’s maw and employs his lightsaber to dismantle it from within. This audacious strategy compels the Benathy to swear loyalty to the First Order. Although they ultimately lose, defeating Vader and compelling Ren to take such a daring step underscores the Zillo Beast’s immense power.
