As a huge Star Wars fan, I’m really excited about the new sequel to The Clone Wars. It’s awesome that Disney is finally revisiting a story they’ve overlooked for years. Ever since A New Hope blew everyone away back in 1977, Star Wars has always been a franchise that wasn’t afraid to grow and try out new ideas – and I’m hoping this continues that tradition!
A particularly welcome surprise was the addition of animated TV shows that officially fit into the existing movie storyline. This decision proved to be a great success, as Star Wars: The Clone Wars remains the best Star Wars television series ever created. The show features excellent writing, deepening our understanding of characters like Anakin Skywalker and introducing beloved new characters like Ahsoka.
One of the most significant improvements The Clone Wars made was bringing back Darth Maul and giving him a more developed story. Despite this success, the Star Wars franchise hasn’t always told stories effectively. Disney previously overlooked an important narrative following The Clone Wars, but they are now working to address that.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Will Reveal What Happened To Maul After Clone Wars

For a long time, there’s been a mystery surrounding what Darth Maul was up to between the events of Clone Wars and Solo. Thankfully, the new series Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will finally reveal what happened during those years. The show will focus on Maul rebuilding his criminal organization and taking on a new apprentice, which promises to be one of his most compelling stories yet.
Star Wars Has Done A Lot With Darth Maul, But Shadow Lord Is The Story We Need
Darth Maul has become a popular character in the Star Wars universe ever since he first appeared in The Phantom Menace. Though he appeared to die in that film, he was brought back in The Clone Wars, and his return was actually explained. Following the seventh season of The Clone Wars, he made appearances in both Solo and Rebels.
Darth Maul might be appearing a bit too often. While he’s a popular character, his continued appearances feel like he’s become nearly invincible due to fan affection. Even a producer on the show, Athena Portillo, has jokingly called him a “seemingly eternal villain,” comparing him to horror movie villains who always come back (according to IGN).
Since they seem determined to keep using this character, I’m happy they’re adding backstory with the “Shadow Lord” story. This could explain why he appears in later shows and movies like Solo and Rebels, making his continued presence feel more natural.
