StarCraft Shooter Reportedly Developed by Nexon in Partnership With Blizzard – Rumor

Reports suggest that Nexon, a South Korean game developer, may be working on a new first-person shooter game based on the StarCraft universe. According to a ResetEra post translating information from Dnews, there’s evidence indicating Nexon began actively developing the game as early as September 2024.

Sources say Nexon and Blizzard agreed to a deal last year to create content related to StarCraft. Nexon has formed a team at its Shooter Headquarters – the team behind Sudden Attack – to work on this, and they’re still hiring. Notably, they’ve brought on Choi Jun-Ho, the creator of the famous Temple Smashing map from the original StarCraft.

The main creative talent currently involved is Dan Hay, who’s famous for his work on the Far Cry series. However, reports suggest that Nexon, not Blizzard, is actually taking the lead on development, even though it’s described as a collaborative effort. They’re currently building prototypes and figuring out if the project is likely to be profitable.

There’s a lot of anticipation about this project, though it’s unclear if or when details will be released. Blizzard originally announced StarCraft: Ghost in 2002 – a stealth action game set in the popular StarCraft universe. Unfortunately, the game faced numerous delays and underwent several redesigns before being officially cancelled in 2014.

If development is progressing well, we might see an announcement at Xbox’s June event, or possibly at Gamescom in August. However, don’t expect news immediately. We’ll share any updates as soon as we have them.
