Starfield Patch Promises to Fix Its Biggest Crashing Issue on PS5, Two Months After Launch

Starfield on PS5 has received a new update aimed at fixing the game’s ongoing crashing problems.

Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG has been available on PlayStation for over two months. While the developers have worked to address significant performance issues, they’re only now focusing on this particular, major problem.

Ever since it launched in April, Starfield players have been experiencing occasional crashes while exploring planets.

I encountered this issue repeatedly while playing, and the only way to fix it was to limit how much I explored. This wasn’t great, especially since the game encourages you to wander and discover new planets.

A new update, patch 1.000.006 for PlayStation 5, should fix the frustrating issue of the game freezing unexpectedly. You can find a complete list of changes in the patch notes linked below.

Starfield Patch 1.000.006 Patch Notes

  • Fixed a freeze that could occur when traversing a planet surface.
  • Addressed an issue that could cause Black Box Incursions to not start or reset properly.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur if a Designer Couch was placed aboard a ship.

  • Fixed an unresponsive state that could occur when attempting to go through load doors while using the scanner.
