Nightdive Studios, known for bringing classic games back to life, has announced a remastered version of Thief: The Dark Project. It will be available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 this winter.
Here’s the (suitably dark) announcement trailer:
Thief: The Dark Project was the first game in a highly acclaimed stealth series.
First released in 1998, the game quickly gained recognition for its groundbreaking stealth mechanics. Players needed to cleverly use light and sound to avoid detection while navigating each level.
The Thief games were incredibly important in shaping both immersive sims and stealth games. It’s likely we wouldn’t have games like Dishonored if it weren’t for Thief.
This remaster contains everything from the original Thief: Gold, including the complete game and all the extra levels and improvements from the expanded version.
Thief: The Dark Project Remastered has been updated with modern graphics, running at 4K resolution and up to 120 frames per second. While the visuals are improved, the game still maintains its original atmosphere and style.
The game includes helpful improvements, such as a quick-access weapon and item selection wheel, making it simpler to manage your gear when using a controller.
The Thief games have been rebooted a few times, but they haven’t lived up to the originals, so I’m excited to see the first game re-released.
As mentioned, it’s due this winter on PS5 and PS4, but there’s no firm date just yet.
