Steam Controller Gets Official Release Date, Steam Machine Release Details Still Uknown

Following several leaks, Valve has officially announced the release date for the Steam Controller. When it was first announced last year, the controller was intended to launch with the Steam Machine. However, Valve had to postpone all new products earlier this year because of manufacturing issues. Now, instead of releasing everything at once, Valve is starting with the Steam Controller, marking the beginning of a phased rollout.

Valve announced today on Steam that the Steam Controller will be available for purchase starting next week, May 4th. The controller features advanced haptics, magnetic thumbsticks, and a battery that lasts for over 35 hours. It will be priced at $99, and Valve plans to ship orders quickly after they are placed.

The Steam Controller was originally designed to launch alongside the Steam Machine, but it’s important to know you can use it with other devices. It works with regular PCs and is also compatible with the Steam Deck. So, even though it’s seen as the main controller for the Steam Machine, you’ll still be able to use it for a while before the Steam Machine is released.

Valve hasn’t shared any recent updates on the Steam Machine’s release. They last mentioned hoping to launch it sometime in the first half of 2026. Now that May is almost here, we can expect more information from Valve soon about the Steam Machine and if they’re still on track to meet that timeframe.

No matter when the Steam Machine is released, it’s great to see Valve launching other products this year. We’ll share any official news about the Steam Machine or the Steam Frame VR headset as soon as we have it, right here on ComicBook.
