Valve stopped making the original Steam Deck with the LCD screen last year, but the newer OLED model was still supposed to be available. However, the Steam Deck has been hard to find in many places throughout 2026, probably because of problems getting the necessary parts. While the OLED model has briefly been back in stock recently – which is great for those trying to buy one – a new development might make it even more difficult for gamers to get their hands on a Steam Deck in the near future.
Komodo Station, a distributor of the Steam Deck, reports that the Steam Deck OLED will soon cost more in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, starting March 6th. While these are the only confirmed price increases so far, similar changes are expected in other regions due to current market trends.
Steam Deck Price Hikes in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan Could Be Just the Beginning

Komodo recently announced a price increase for the Steam Deck OLED due to rising shipping costs and changes in exchange rates. The price bump averages around $100 USD, depending on the region. For example, the 512 GB and 1TB models now cost approximately $644 and $740 USD in Japan, which is higher than the current U.S. prices of $549 and $649, respectively.
The fact that exchange rates are being discussed suggests price increases might vary depending on where you are. However, gamers aren’t optimistic about this. The OLED model is already selling out quickly in some areas, and Valve says this is because of limited supplies of memory and storage parts. Since these parts are hard to find and expensive, it seems likely that the cost of all electronics will soon go up.
With prices going up in some areas, many people are expecting to see increases everywhere. So far, these higher prices haven’t been confirmed outside of those specific regions, but Valve is likely considering its options. The company hasn’t announced when or how much its new products – announced last year – will cost. The Steam Machine is planned for release this year, but Valve is holding off on details because of the same supply issues causing problems with the Steam Deck.

The 512GB and 1TB OLED Steam Deck models are currently priced at $549 and $649 respectively, but are out of stock in the U.S. When more units become available, the price may increase, mirroring price hikes seen in other parts of the world.
Even if the Steam Deck OLED price doesn’t increase, this isn’t a positive sign for the upcoming Steam Machine. Rising component costs likely mean the Steam Machine will be significantly more expensive than the Steam Deck. It’s also possible the release date will be pushed back further, despite Valve’s previous statements that it’s still planned for this year.
