While it’s not the long-awaited Half-Life 3, excitement is building online about a possible announcement from Valve. Rumors, leaks, and early previews suggest a new Steam Machine could be revealed sooner than expected.
It looks like the Steam Controller will be released soon! Some early reviews accidentally revealed the price and release date.
But, if the Steam Controller is coming, what is happening with the Steam Machine?
The Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame are now listed on the Komodo Station website, which is Valve’s official store for products in Asia.
According to VR fan Brad Lynch, only the Steam Controller recently got updated images on the web.

Valve previously postponed the Steam Machine and Steam Deck due to high memory costs, often called ‘RAMageddon,’ as explained in their Steam hardware FAQ. Now, according to Mike Straw of Insider Gaming, Valve might absorb some of the extra costs to finally release the hybrid PC-console.

According to Mike Straw, Valve is nearing a final decision about the Steam Controller, including its price. He reported that Valve has been debating whether to sell it at a loss, at least initially. While the exact decision isn’t known, those inside the company believe a release announcement is coming soon.
Before the Steam Deck came out, Valve’s Gabe Newell said it was “really difficult” to price the basic model at £349 or $359. It wasn’t clear whether they were selling it at a loss, just covering costs, or making a very small profit.
We could lose money selling the Steam Machine because of a few potential problems. Some people might buy them just to take out valuable parts, or companies could purchase them as inexpensive computers for their businesses.
Valve used a paid reservation system for the Steam Deck, where customers paid a fee upfront that was later applied to the purchase price. This was likely because of supply chain issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Valve will probably use this method again to prevent people from buying up all the units and reselling them at a higher price. This means you should be able to get a Steam Machine if you want one, but you might have to wait your turn depending on how many people are ahead of you in the pre-order list.
We’ll let you know immediately if we hear any new information or receive an official announcement.
