A reliable source in the hardware industry has potentially revealed the price of the Steam Machine, and it appears to be quite expensive. Valve announced the device last year, with plans to release it in 2026, but hasn’t yet shared a specific release date or price. While Valve hasn’t officially announced either detail, many expected a high price due to factors like manufacturing limitations, shipping problems, component scarcity, recent oil market instability, and overall rising costs. A new report now seems to confirm those expectations.
Fortunately, the Steam Machine is expected to be reasonably priced, especially considering current PC hardware costs. We’re not sure why – it could be that initial production costs are already factored in – but reports suggest a price between $600 and $650. That’s more expensive than a standard PS5, but cheaper than a PS5 Pro, and it features more recent technology than either console.
Steam Machine Too Expensive?
According to hardware insider Moore’s Law Is Dead, the price of the new console is higher than expected due to recent, significant increases in the cost of memory and storage parts.
The original Steam Machine, largely considered a failure, cost $449, with more powerful models costing even more. While that price might be reasonable for a new, specialized device in 2026, it was expensive for the market in 2015. The upcoming Steam Deck successor could face a similar problem. Although $600 or $650 isn’t outrageous in 2026, there might not be enough demand for this type of product at that price, given the current economic climate. This likely explains why Valve hasn’t revealed much about how much it will cost.
Keep in mind that this information isn’t official and could change. Valve hasn’t made any comments about it, and we don’t anticipate they will. However, we’ll update this article if anything changes.
