A highly anticipated game launches on Steam this week, and it’s been confirmed to work perfectly with the Steam Deck right away. Valve has thoroughly tested the game on the Deck to ensure it runs smoothly from beginning to end, using both the screen and controllers. While some games have received the “Steam Deck Verified” label but still had performance issues, this confirmation at least guarantees the game will be playable.
The underwater survival game, Subnautica 2, is launching on May 14th, and it’s now confirmed to work well with the Steam Deck. This isn’t a huge surprise, as both previous Subnautica games are also Steam Deck Verified, though it wasn’t guaranteed for the initial release. Often, games are tested and verified for the Steam Deck after they’ve already launched.
Steam’s Most Wishlisted Game
Currently on Steam, Subnautica 2 is the most anticipated upcoming game, with more people adding it to their wishlists than titles like Deadlock, Forza Horizon 6, Light No Fire, and Fable. It’s also the third most followed game, only behind Deadlock and Oku. What’s really impressive is that Subnautica 2 has gained almost 20,000 wishlists in the last week – nearly 12,000 more than its closest competitor. This makes it one of the most eagerly awaited games set to launch on Steam in 2026.
If you’re new to the series, Subnautica first launched in 2015 as an early access game and was fully released in 2018. It received positive reviews, scoring 87 on Metacritic, and sold very well. In 2021, a spin-off game, Subnautica: Below Zero, came out – initially planned as downloadable content for the original. While it also received good reviews (82 on Metacritic), it didn’t sell as many copies. Now, eight years after the first game, a proper sequel is in development. Whether it lives up to the hype and how well it works on the Steam Deck are yet to be seen.
