The highly-rated sci-fi visual novel STEINS;GATE is receiving a new version for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in Japan on August 20th. This marks the third remake of the game, developed by MAGES.
Although a Western release date hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, the game will have English subtitles when it launches, likely meaning it will be available in the West at the same time as in Japan.
Many fans will recall the original game, which first came out on Xbox 360 in 2009. It was later available on PSP, PS3, and PS Vita, and then re-released on PS4 and PS Vita with scenes from its anime adaptation.
The game is being completely updated with fresh graphics, a modern user interface, and a refreshed story.
Here’s how the blurb pitches it:
This updated version features completely new characters, artwork, and user interface. It also includes a brand new story that builds on the existing world. The game realistically recreates the Akihabara district, offering a more immersive and detailed experience of its streets and hidden mysteries.
The game will feature fresh scenarios and improved systems, offering a new experience for both new players and dedicated fans of STEINS;GATE.
Honestly, whether you’re completely new to STEINS;GATE or you’ve played it before, I think this is definitely something you should check out. It seems really good!
The gameplay footage above gives a good look at the game’s new art style. As it’s a visual novel, you’ll primarily be reading—which is typical for this genre.
