Stephen King Sci-Fi Thriller Series Becomes A Top 5 Netflix Hit, 10 Years Later

The popular Stephen King story IT recently returned to television with the successful series IT: Welcome to Derry, leaving fans wanting more. Now, a different King thriller – a sci-fi story from a decade ago – is gaining huge popularity, but this time on Netflix.

Stephen King’s novel 11/22/63 was turned into a TV series called 11.22.63 by J.J. Abrams. Ten years after its release, the series recently became a hit on Netflix, reaching number 4 on their Top 10 chart. It shared the top spots with popular shows like Stranger Things at number 3, Run Away at number 2, and HIS & HERS at number 1. Completing the top 5 were Marcello Hernandez: American Boy and WWE Raw.

What Is Stephen King’s 11.22.63 Actually About?

The TV series 11.22.63 features James Franco as Jake Epping and Chris Cooper as Al Templeton, two friends in Lisbon Falls, Maine. One day, Jake discovers Al, who is bleeding, urging him to step through a specific closet in their favorite diner. When Jake does, he’s shocked to find himself transported back to 1960.

Al confesses he’s been using the portal in an attempt to prevent the assassination of President Kennedy. He believes saving JFK is the only way to protect his family from tragedy in the Vietnam War under Lyndon B. Johnson, and desperately asks Jake to continue his work. Al also shares that he’s battling cancer and doesn’t have long to live. After Al’s death, Jake tries to fulfill his mission, hoping to alter the past and save Al himself, but time proves to be an insurmountable obstacle.

The movie 11.22.63 has been well-received, earning an 83% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes based on 53 positive and 11 negative reviews. Viewers seem to like it even more, giving it an 88% audience score. The film stars James Franco, Bradley Cooper, Sarah Gadon, Lucy Fry, Daniel Webber, George MacKay, Cherry Jones, T.R. Knight, Josh Duhamel, and Anette O’Toole.
