Steven Knight says Taboo season 2 with Tom Hardy could still happen, nine years on

It’s been nearly nine years since Taboo first aired on BBC One. The dark historical drama, led by Tom Hardy, quickly grabbed viewers’ attention.

People have been talking about a second season ever since, but so far, nothing has happened. It’s starting to seem like the show won’t be coming back.

We recently spoke with the creator of Taboo for our video series The TopMob Writers’ Room, where we explore the minds of screenwriters. We asked him directly if a second season was still possible.

Tom and I have discussed it, and we have a pretty good idea of how we’d proceed. The main challenge is finding the room to make it happen. I get asked about this frequently, particularly when I’m in the United States.

Knight has hinted for years that production was nearing, and in 2022, he specifically predicted it would begin near the end of 2023.

Tom and I both want to keep working on this, and many others are encouraging us to do so. We’ve just been working out the logistics and figuring out the best way forward, he explained.

In March 2023, FX executive producer Dean Baker confirmed that season 2 was in development. However, creator Steven Knight is involved in several other projects – including ‘House of Guinness,’ ‘A Thousand Blows,’ the ‘Peaky Blinders’ universe, and the next James Bond film – which may be causing delays.
