Steven Spielberg had to phone home to learn about E.T.’s.
Before his new movie, Disclosure Day – featuring Josh O’Connor, Colman Domingo, and Emily Blunt – comes out, the director of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial explained why he’s always believed in aliens.
In an exclusive interview with TopMob News, Steven shared a lifelong belief sparked by his father. Years ago, his father, an electrical engineer, worked on one of the earliest computers for RCA. Steven explained that his father instilled in him the idea that life exists beyond Earth – not just on our planet, but somewhere in the universe.
And the 79-year-old’s dad Arnold Spielberg inspired his own opinion on the matter.
Steven remembered his father saying, ‘There’s intelligent life somewhere else.’ Because his dad loved science fiction, Steven grew up firmly believing that life – and intelligent life – exists beyond Earth.
Of course, the Jaws director looked beyond his father’s opinions for his own proof.
Steven explained that these stories evolved into widely circulated myths rather than formal conspiracy theories. He emphasized their enduring believability, adding that as he’s gotten older, he’s increasingly felt there’s a hidden truth being kept from the public.
And for Steven, the upcoming film feels the most authentic to what he believes is real alien life.
The Academy Award winner explained that they’d been collecting notes for three or four years. These notes were based on publicly available information, documentaries about the topic, and stories they’d heard directly from people who experienced it. They simply kept recording these observations and brainstorming ideas.
In making the new sci-fi thriller, Steven only wanted it to be a “credible” movie.

I wasn’t trying to create something amazing,” he explained. “I just wanted to make something believable.
If aliens ever visited Earth, Steven Spielberg says he wouldn’t show them one of his own films. Instead, he’d share Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life with them.

Oh my gosh, you guys, the new movie is going to destroy me! Peter Parker – I mean, Tom Holland, obviously – is just… alone. Completely alone in New York, still trying to be a hero, but everyone he ever cared about has no idea who he is! It’s heartbreaking, honestly. But! Zendaya is back as MJ, thank goodness, and they’ve added Sadie Sink to the mix, which is AMAZING. I can’t even breathe thinking about it!
