Netflix has cancelled its sci-fi series, The Boroughs, after only one month. The show was executive produced by the creators of Stranger Things, The Duffer Brothers.
Deadline was the first to report that the show was being considered for additional seasons, and there was even discussion about filming seasons 2 and 3 consecutively.
The show had begun planning for a second season, with a writers’ room already assembled, but disappointing initial ratings led to its cancellation.
The show was expensive to produce because of its complex visuals, special effects, and famous actors, and these costs likely influenced creative decisions.

The Boroughs featured a talented cast including Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman. The story centered on a retirement community where the residents had to work together to defend themselves against a strange, supernatural danger.
This year, the Duffer Brothers released four shows on Netflix. These included the final episodes of Stranger Things on New Year’s Day, the limited series Something Very Bad is Going to Happen (created as a single, self-contained story), The Boroughs, and an animated spin-off of Stranger Things called Tales from ’85.
After this announcement, only ‘Stranger Things: Tales from ’85’ will keep going on Netflix. The creators of the show, the Duffer Brothers, are now working with Paramount Pictures on new movies and television projects.

The filmmaking pair recently revealed their next big project, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 3, 2028.
