Fans of Stranger Things have noticed a significant costume error in Volume 2 of Season 5, reminding many of the criticisms surrounding the final season of Game of Thrones. With the release of Volume 2 on December 25th, the show is building towards a final showdown with Vecna. There’s concern that Stranger Things might face a similar backlash to Game of Thrones‘ controversial ending, a worry even expressed by cast member Finn Wolfhard in an interview with TIME, who feared the show could be “torn to shreds.” While it’s too soon to know if that will happen, observant viewers have spotted a mistake in the newest episodes that brings back memories of the issues with Game of Thrones’ finale. (Please be aware that minor spoilers for Stranger Things Season 5, Volume 2, follow.)
Fans have spotted a costume error involving Holly Wheeler. In a scene where she escapes Vecna’s grasp, she’s wearing Under Armour clothing. However, the Under Armour company wasn’t established until 1996, and Stranger Things Season 5 is set in 1987. This means the shirt she’s wearing wouldn’t have existed yet, and it’s a bit of a blunder considering her more pressing situation of returning home to Hawkins.

With so much happening in the show, it’s a small mistake that’s easy to overlook, but it could have been fixed. Because Stranger Things is set in the 1980s, getting the details right is crucial to making the show feel authentic, and the creators usually do a great job. While it probably won’t be as infamous as the problems with the final season of Game of Thrones, it still brings those issues to mind.
Stranger Things’ Holly Mistake Is Reminiscent of Game of Thrones Season 8’s Errors

People are starting to compare the upcoming final season of Stranger Things to the controversial final season of Game of Thrones. Both shows were huge hits that captured the public’s imagination, and Stranger Things now faces the same challenge: delivering a satisfying conclusion. Game of Thrones’ last season received a lot of criticism, including complaints about noticeable errors. Many fans remember the infamous coffee cup that accidentally appeared on screen during an episode, sparking jokes and frustration online. That wasn’t the only problem viewers pointed out, though.
Viewers spotted a water bottle on the floor during the final episode of Game of Thrones, and someone in modern clothes appeared in the first episode. These kinds of errors damaged the show’s reputation, especially since they could have been easily fixed. It’s understandable that the people making the show were focused on the overall story, but similar issues are now appearing in Stranger Things Season 5—like a character wearing modern clothing. Hopefully, Stranger Things won’t have as many noticeable mistakes before it ends.
