Stranger Things Finally Introduces Another Harrington Family Member

Be warned, this contains spoilers for the first part of Stranger Things season 5! The final season of Stranger Things continues to emphasize the importance of family, and it finally introduced another member of Steve Harrington’s family. Joe Keery, who plays Steve, has been a key part of the Netflix series since it began in 2016. His character has undergone a major transformation, evolving from Nancy’s initially unlikeable boyfriend into a beloved fan favorite.

At the end of the first part of Stranger Things season 5, Steve found himself trapped in the Upside Down with Dustin, Nancy, and Jonathan after pursuing what they believed was a lead to Holly – a Demogorgon. He’d been in the Upside Down before, during season 4, when he, Nancy, and Robin attempted to defeat Vecna. Over the four years the show covers, Steve has changed a lot, and fortunately, he’s avoided repeating his father’s mistakes.

In the fifth season of Stranger Things, specifically the episode “Sorcerer,” Max shared that she saw flashbacks of Henry Creel’s past while trapped in Vecna’s mental world. One of these flashbacks happened in 1959 at Hawkins High, showing a young Joyce distributing flyers for a play she was directing. She handed a flyer to a disinterested athlete and called him “Harrington,” confirming that he was Steve’s father, Danny.

The brief glimpse into the past was the first time we saw another member of the Harrington family on Stranger Things, despite the family having lived in Hawkins for many years. Before this, we only knew that Danny Harrington frequently traveled for work and, according to Steve, was a generally unpleasant person. Steve himself has made a conscious effort to avoid becoming like his father, and hasn’t left Hawkins since high school.

Who Plays Danny Harrington In Stranger Things

Fans noticed a striking similarity between the young actor playing Danny Harrington in a single scene of Stranger Things season 5 and Steve Harrington. The actress portraying the younger Joyce in a flashback sequence also bore a strong resemblance to her older self. Aidan Armstrong played young Danny and recently shared his excitement about appearing in Volume 1 on Instagram.

Before landing his role on Stranger Things, Armstrong had already acted in a few independent films and a short movie. It’s currently unknown if he’ll be back for future episodes of the show. However, with the new questions raised about Joyce and Henry Creel, we might see more scenes set in the 1950s. There’s also a possibility the show will finally introduce Steve’s parents in the present day, though fans are hoping it won’t involve a sad storyline.

The first part of Stranger Things season 5 is now streaming on Netflix. The second part will be released on December 25th, and the very last episodes will air on December 31st.
