The popular Netflix series is finishing up this year with its fifth and final season. But recently, the show has also faced some controversy.
A recent report alleged that the lead actress filed a complaint against her co-star, David Harbour, accusing him of harassment and bullying. Neither actor has confirmed these claims. Notably, Harbour was not present during the start of the promotional tour, according to The Standard.
The main cast of the show – Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, and Sadie Sink – have been working to build excitement for the final season, but David Harbour hasn’t joined them. He wasn’t involved in the recent publicity events, which led fans to jokingly connect it to Millie Bobby Brown’s recent legal filing and the new album released by Harbour’s ex-wife, Lily Allen.
Despite initial concerns, the situation isn’t as bad as it appeared. According to E! News, David Harbour wasn’t actually scheduled to participate in the recent interview events. He is, however, confirmed to star in a new movie called Evil Genius, directed by Courteney Cox. E! News also reports that Harbour has been given the all-clear and is expected to attend the premiere of Stranger Things Season 5 in Los Angeles on November 6th.
As a huge fan of Stranger Things, I was really shocked to hear the recent news. Apparently, Millie Bobby Brown actually filed a detailed complaint about a co-star before they even started filming Season 5 in January. A source told The Daily Mail it wasn’t a quick note – it was a really extensive document outlining accusations of harassment and bullying, and the investigation lasted for months. Thankfully, the report also made it clear that the issues weren’t sexual in nature, which is a relief to hear.
David Harbour Isn’t the Only Controversial Stranger Things Star
Although the show Stranger Things recently made news, a more pressing issue has been the controversy surrounding Noah Schnapp, the actor who plays Will Byers. Late in 2023, Schnapp faced backlash for his views on the conflict between Palestine and Israel, leading some fans to call for his character to be killed off. The show’s marketing team responded by minimizing Schnapp’s solo appearances, primarily featuring him in group photos. However, the criticism has subsided, and Will Byers is still expected to be a significant character in the final season.
The show will premiere with the first four episodes on November 26th, during the Thanksgiving holiday. The remaining three episodes will be released on Christmas Day, and the season will conclude with the final episode on December 31st.
