Recent promotional images for Stranger Things Season 5 suggest that Sadie Sink’s character, Max, will recover from her coma. Fans have been anxiously awaiting the final season of the popular fantasy horror series, which will conclude a story that’s been unfolding for almost ten years. A major question following the Season 4 finale was whether Max Mayfield would survive, and it appears Netflix may have already revealed the answer through these images.

To mark Stranger Things Day on November 6th – the anniversary of Will Byers’ disappearance in 1983 – Netflix Japan’s Instagram account revealed some promotional images for the upcoming fifth season. These included collectible acrylic stands, and one design featuring Sadie Sink’s character, Max Mayfield, suggests Max will recover from her coma and participate in the battle against Vecna in the final season.

Max’s promotional display is surrounded by displays of other key characters, and it’s obvious these are the latest versions from Season 5. The actors appear older, and some characters are wearing costumes we haven’t seen before.

Up close, the standee of Max shows her with her arms folded. She has long, wavy red hair that’s worn down, and she’s dressed in a jacket, pants, and boots.

This is a significant sign that Max will wake up from her coma and regain her sight. Her eyes appear completely normal in recent promotional material, which is a major improvement from Season 4. After her encounter with Vecna, her eyes were clouded over, and it was confirmed that Vecna had blinded her.

Despite her blindness, the character’s eyes appear healthy, suggesting she’ll regain her sight. While Stranger Things is a work of fiction, temporary blindness can occur in real life due to head injuries. Vecna put significant pressure on her head during their attack, which could have caused this temporary vision loss. The show could explain her recovery realistically, or through its own fictional logic.

Netflix Japan’s merchandise collection features items from every season of Stranger Things, including a t-shirt from Season 4 and a poster from Season 2. But the standees available are definitely for the next, unreleased season.

We already knew Max woke up from her coma, but this is the first official hint from Netflix that she’ll be back to help in Season 5.

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things will arrive on Netflix in three parts. The first part will be available starting November 26, 2025, followed by the second part on December 25, 2025, and the third part on December 31, 2025.

Will Max Survive Stranger Things Season 5?

Sadie Sink has shared that her character will have a significant part in the fifth season of the show. She explained that the creators had planned to eliminate her character in Season 4 if she wasn’t going to be featured in the final season. However, even with her return from a coma, her character isn’t necessarily safe, as the powerful villain Vecna still poses a deadly threat.

During the fourth season, it was revealed that Max is clinically brain-dead, meaning her subconscious mind isn’t functioning. Many believe her consciousness remains connected to Vecna, and she might be trapped within the Upside Down as a result.

If that’s the case, she might still be able to help the heroes when they go to the Upside Down to find Vecna. The big challenge is figuring out how she’ll wake up from her coma and be able to join them in person.

Max was brought back to life after dying in Season 4, and she’s waking up from her coma. Because of this, it’s unlikely she’ll die again – it wouldn’t make sense to kill her off and then bring her back only to kill her off again. Most fans expect her to survive the final season.

Ultimately, anything could happen, and viewers will need to watch the remaining episodes to find out Max’s fate.
