Even with all the excitement from the past week, Stranger Things fans still managed to tune in to the new episodes, helping Netflix achieve another record viewership.
According to Variety, the streaming service had its most-watched Christmas Day ever in 2025. The biggest hit of the day was Stranger Things, boosted by the release of three new episodes. Viewers in the UK saw these episodes – which comprised volume 2 of the season – on Boxing Day due to the difference in time zones.
The latest episodes of Stranger Things season 5 attracted 34.5 million viewers between December 22nd and 28th. This was the second-highest weekly total for the season, following its November debut which saw a record-breaking 59.6 million views – the best opening week ever for an English-language series on Netflix.
Netflix calculates the 34.5 million views by dividing the total watch time across all seven episodes by each episode’s length. This makes it hard to know precisely how many times the final three episodes (5, 6, and 7) were viewed individually.

The final episodes of Stranger Things will be available in the US on New Year’s Eve. Viewers in the UK can watch them on New Year’s Day. In the US, some cinemas will also be showing the finale.
With the season finale approaching, a lot of viewers are concerned that some of the characters they love might die.
The creators of the show, the Duffer Brothers, have reassured fans that they don’t need to worry – this sci-fi series won’t be as shocking or unpredictable as ‘Game of Thrones’.

Matt Duffer told The Hollywood Reporter that while he loves Game of Thrones, their show is quite different. He assured viewers they won’t see anything as shocking as the ‘Red Wedding’ scene.
The finale has some unexpected moments, but our goal wasn’t to shock viewers. We hope that by the end, what happens will feel natural and earned, and ultimately satisfying rather than upsetting.
