Eric Robles, the showrunner for the new animated Stranger Things spin-off, Tales from ‘85, has shared some early story details and explained how he resolved a significant issue with the plot.
As a huge fan of Stranger Things, I was so excited when Netflix revealed the new series would take place in 1985, fitting right between seasons two and three! It’s going to follow Eleven, Max, Mike, Lucas, Dustin, and Will as they deal with some seriously creepy new monsters and try to figure out this strange, paranormal mystery that’s got their town on edge. I can’t wait to see what happens!
Dedicated viewers of the show have pointed out a plot hole: if Eleven closed the gate to the Upside Down back in season 2, how are the kids still facing monsters?
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Robles explained how he resolved a plot hole in the show. He said he carefully examined the entire series, looking for any weaknesses. After finding a few, he landed on an idea that he felt was the perfect solution, exclaiming, ‘Oh wow! I think that’s it!’
He explained that the science from Hawkins Lab is interacting with the strange material from the Upside Down, creating a ripple effect. This connection is causing the creatures from that other dimension to appear in our world.
Robles didn’t share any more information about the story, so fans will have to wait until the show comes out next year to learn what happens.
Robles also hinted that the show will feature a central mystery that unfolds throughout the entire season, along with scary, horror-filled moments.
This show has some genuine intensity. The dangers the children face are very real – it’s much darker than something lighthearted like Scooby-Doo. There’s no guarantee everything will be okay, and things could get serious,” Robles explained, also hinting at “a lot of really awesome monsters.”
Okay, so the kids are all new! We’ve got a fresh cast stepping into these iconic roles. Brooklyn Davey Norstedt is taking over as Eleven, and Jolie Hoang-Rappaport will be playing Max. The rest of the gang – Mike (Luca Diaz), Lucas (EJ Williams), Dustin (Braxton Quinney), Will (Ben Plessala) – are also getting new voices, and even Hopper’s being played by Brett Gipson. It’s a whole new generation bringing these characters to life, and I’m really curious to see how they make the roles their own.
Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips will also voice undisclosed roles.
While ‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ is one upcoming spin-off, another live-action series based on ‘Stranger Things’ is also in development, but information about it is still being kept secret.
