It’s bittersweet saying goodbye to the original series after five amazing seasons, but I’m so excited that the story isn’t over! We’re getting more of the world with Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
A new animated series set between seasons 2 and 3 is coming to Netflix, continuing the story with all your favorite characters – and introducing someone new. According to reports, Odessa A’zion will voice Nikki Baxter, a key addition to the cast.
A’zion was already known to be involved with the project, having been announced previously. However, she hadn’t been assigned a specific role, similar to Janeane Garofalo and Lou Diamond Phillips. Now, Netflix is starting to reveal who will be playing which characters.
Who Is Nikki in Stranger Things: Tales From ’85?
Set in the winter of 1985, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 begins with a period of peace in Hawkins. After facing government secrets, otherworldly threats, and the dangers of the Upside Down, Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and Max are enjoying a return to normal life. But for those familiar with Hawkins, this calm won’t last long.
The kids face a new mystery, and a new student named Nikki Baxter joins the group, offering a fresh viewpoint. According to showrunner Eric Robles, Nikki is a 14-year-old who’s moved around a lot, originally from the East Coast. He describes her as a kind and loyal friend who isn’t afraid to stand up to bullies, using her size and punk-rock style to protect others.
Robles explained that they brought Nikki on board to introduce a new audience to the exciting world of Stranger Things, especially since the show is at a crucial turning point. Her role will bring a new and different viewpoint, challenging existing relationships and ways of thinking.
Robles also emphasized that Nikki will introduce a thrilling new lineup of challenges and creatures that kids haven’t seen before.
What’s Next for Stranger Things?
After a long run that began in 2016, the final season of Stranger Things recently aired. While the ending neatly tied up the storylines for all the characters, some dedicated fans were disappointed, particularly regarding a popular theory that turned out to be incorrect.
Despite finishing its main storyline, Stranger Things remains popular. Netflix is expanding the franchise with an animated series, a Broadway show, and a live-action spinoff currently in development.
The Duffer Brothers are finalizing details before their new agreement with Paramount. This includes plans for another Stranger Things spinoff and potentially other projects.
Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 debuts on Netflix on Apr. 23.
