Strictly Come Dancing star Kristian Nairn has pulled out of the BBC show due to medical reasons.
As a passionate cinephile, I was taken aback when the multi-talented individual, famed for his portrayal of Hodor in HBO’s Game of Thrones and also known for his skills as a DJ, announced on the 21st of August that he had to let down many fans due to unavoidable circumstances. I share in the disappointment and extend my sincere apologies to everyone who was looking forward to whatever exciting project he had planned.
In my own words, I regretfully find myself compelled to take a break from this year’s Strictly Come Dancing journey, as unforeseen health matters have arisen. This was not an easy decision, but I feel it is the best course of action for me at this time.
I’ve been eagerly anticipating this trip, and it’s regretful that I won’t get to dance with those who were waiting for me. I appreciate your encouragement, and I promise to recover quickly, both physically and metaphorically. Sending love to each of you. Kristian.
Last week, Nairn was announced as the final contestant joining the 2025 edition of the show.
He stated then: “This is going to be a significant physical test for me, yet I’m prepared to meet the task head-on! It’s an extraordinary and delightful chance for me to relinquish one of my left feet!”
He declared at the moment: “This will be quite a demanding challenge in terms of my physical abilities, but I am all set to confront it bravely! It’s an amazing and marvelous occasion for me to part with one of my left feet!
Sarah James, as the executive producer at BBC Studios, expressed her delight: “Over this brief period, we’ve grown quite fond of Kristian. He certainly seems to have what it takes to be an outstanding competitor on ‘Strictly Come Dancing.’
“We’re incredibly sorry to lose him from this year’s series and we all wish him a speedy recovery.”
Notable guests scheduled for the program are Balvinder Sopal from EastEnders, George Clarke who is a YouTuber and podcast host, as well as former soccer player Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who played for Leeds United and Chelsea.
Additionally participating will be former Olympic sprinter Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, reality show winner Dani Dyer from Love Island, actress Alex Kingston known for her roles in Doctor Who and ER, and RuPaul’s Drag Race UK standout star La Voix, along with other competitors.
Tonight at 7pm, BBC One and BBC iPlayer’s The One Show will reveal who is stepping in for Nairn on Strictly Come Dancing as the new celebrity contestant.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One and iPlayer later this year.
