Viewers of Strictly Come Dancing believe the judges gave Karen Carney unfairly low scores during Saturday night’s show.
The retired athlete kicked off Week 4 of the competition with her partner, Carlos Gu. They performed the quickstep to Beverley Knight’s song, ‘Marvellous’.
Although Karen had a small wobble getting to her feet after a lift, the judges loved the performance. Some viewers were surprised by the scores – 6, 7, 7, and 7 – which added up to a total of 27.
Okay, so Motsi told Karen she was really elegant and totally on beat – super fast, actually! I loved how much attack she brought to the dance. Motsi said she finally looks comfortable and confident, and everything was polished and sparkling. There was a little slip with the dress, but Motsi was totally cool about it and let it slide.
Shirley Ballas complimented the performance, noting it was better than the previous tango. She loved the costumes and overall presentation, and highlighted the dancer’s energy and skill. While there was a small stumble at the end, they quickly recovered.
Anton Du Beke praised the performance as very professional and focused, noting a slight inconsistency in places. He particularly liked the clean start, the energetic performance, and the improved clarity of the footwork, offering overall positive feedback.
Craig Revel Horwood acknowledged that everyone makes mistakes, saying, “It happens, darling!” He praised the contestant’s ability to bounce back, but noted their upper body could be more relaxed and their feet were slightly turned in. However, he finished by saying he was really excited to see them perform another Charleston, as their Charlestons are fantastic.
Viewers turned to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their disappointment after the scores were announced, with many believing Kaz was scored unfairly low.
A second fan added: “Kaz and Carlos should’ve scored 8s for that quickstep #strictly.”
