Studio Madhouse Anime Will Receive Its Own Live-Action Movie

I’ve been watching Studio Madhouse for years, and they’ve become a real powerhouse in the anime world, responsible for so many popular shows. Think classics like Trigun, Black Lagoon, Death Note, and more recent hits like One-Punch Man, Hunter x Hunter, and Overlord. They’re already planning a second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End next year, which is exciting. But recently, I learned some big news about another one of their series – it’s getting a live-action movie! It seems like more and more anime are making the jump to live-action, and this one is definitely one to watch.

Unlike many popular anime series filled with action or sports, Wandance is unique for its focus on the art of dance. Though it didn’t reach the same level of mainstream success as some other Madhouse productions, it’s still getting a live-action movie! A recent social media post officially announced the film, expressing gratitude to fans for making it possible. The post simply stated, “Live-Action Film Adaptation Confirmed! The manga Wandance began in 2019, created by an artist who goes by the name “Coffee.” The first season of the anime adaptation is now streaming on Hulu. The show follows Kabo, a high school student who has trouble speaking and expressing himself. He’s inspired by his classmate Wanda, who confidently pursues her passion for dance. Kabo decides to explore dance as a way to find his own unique form of self-expression.

The upcoming live-action adaptation of Wandance isn’t the first anime to get a real-life version, but it’s unique because it’s being made in Japan. Many anime adaptations, like Netflix’s One Piece and Alita: Battle Angel, are produced outside of Japan. Japanese anime fans are already familiar with live-action versions of popular series such as Tokyo Revengers, Cells at Work, Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, and Attack on Titan. While these films don’t always get wide releases in the West, they usually become available in North America somehow.
