With the release of Styx: Blades of Greed approaching on February 19th, Cyanide Studio has been sharing more information about the game. In a recent interview with GamingBolt, the game’s creator and director, Julien Desourteaux, explained that they won’t be using the enhanced power of the PlayStation 5 Pro to improve the game’s graphics.
We asked him how the PS5 Pro might affect game development, and he explained that their studio designed Styx: Blades of Greed for the standard PS5. Because of this, the game won’t specifically utilize the Pro’s extra features. However, he added that players with a PS5 Pro should still experience a smoother, more consistent frame rate due to the console’s increased power.
We really built Styx: Blades of Greed with the original PS5 in mind, so we didn’t go out of our way to specifically optimize it for the PS5 Pro. But honestly, the Pro’s extra horsepower is a nice perk – it means the game runs super smoothly no matter what’s happening. As for that new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution tech, we’re actually sticking with Unreal Engine 5’s Temporal Super Resolution. It was already working great for us, so we figured there was no need to switch things up.
We found that Unreal Engine 5’s built-in upscaling technology worked quite well for Styx: Blades of Greed, so we didn’t focus much on PSSR for that game,” he said. “However, we are looking into using PSSR in our future titles.”
The stealth adventure game Styx: Blades of Greed, a sequel to 2017’s Styx: Shards of Darkness, was first revealed in March 2025. Developers are highlighting the game’s focus on player freedom and creativity. Blades of Greed will feature more vertically designed levels, and the goblin hero Styx will have new abilities and tools to help him move around and battle enemies. The game’s story will center around the origins of the Black Hand mercenary group. A recent trailer offered a look back at Styx’s past adventures.
I was so excited to finally try out Styx: Blades of Greed on my PC last month when the free demo dropped! The best part is, Cyanide Studio said any progress you make in the demo carries over to the full game, which is awesome. It lets you play through the beginning – there are two missions, a tutorial and a mission where you infiltrate The Wall. They’ve said it’s meant to give you a good feel for what the full game is like, and honestly, it really does!
Okay, so I’m really excited – Styx: Blades of Greed is heading to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S! It’s gonna cost $49.99 for the standard version. But, there’s also a Quartz Edition for $59.99 that comes with a bunch of cool stuff – extra crafting materials, a couple of talent points, some new taunts, and even some exclusive skins. Plus, if you pre-order either version, you get a sweet Master of Shadows skin as a bonus! Definitely thinking about grabbing that Quartz Edition, it sounds worth it.
