Styx Publisher Nacon Files For Insolvency Just Weeks Before The Launch Of Greedfall 2

Nacon, a French video game company known for games like Styx and GreedFall, has declared bankruptcy. This news comes shortly after the launch of Styx: Blades of Greed and just weeks before the planned release of GreedFall 2.

Nacon is a gaming company made up of 16 different development teams, including well-known studios like Kylotonn (known for WRC games), Cyanide (Tour de France), and Spiders (GreedFall). They also have their own team for publishing games. Recently, Nacon has faced financial difficulties because its main owner, Bigben Interactive, failed to repay a loan. Nacon is now asking the French courts for permission to reorganize its debts.

The company is seeking a way to stay in business, protect its employees and jobs, and reach an agreement with those it owes money to. This process will allow them to continue operating while they work on a plan to pay back their debts and ensure a stable future.

Bigben Interactive is the majority owner of Nacon, holding 56.72% of its shares and controlling 65.79% of the voting rights. Recently, Bigben Interactive couldn’t repay a €43 million loan (approximately $50.7 million) because its banks unexpectedly refused to provide the funds.

Nacon Has Found Creative Ways To Generate Revenue

Okay, so I’ve been following the news about Nacon, and it sounds like they’re trying to sort out their finances. If the court signs off on their plan, things should be stable for a while, which is great because I’m really hoping they keep making controllers and accessories. But if the court doesn’t approve it, things could get really bad for them and all the companies they own – potentially meaning no more Nacon products, which would be a bummer.

Nacon is a rare publisher with multiple development studios focused on mid-range games. These studios generally create projects that reliably generate good income without requiring huge initial costs.

This also covers smaller sports games that aren’t made by the biggest companies in the industry, like 2K and Electronic Arts. For instance, Kylotonn creates World Rally Championship games, Cyanide makes Pro Cycling Manager and Tour de France, Eko Software used to develop handball and rugby titles, and Big Ant Studios focuses on AFL (Australian Rules football), Rugby League, and Cricket games.

The publisher isn’t limited to one type of game, having also released titles like Styx, the unfortunately unsuccessful Lord of the Rings: Gollum (by Daedalic), and the upcoming action RPG, GreedFall 2.
