If you long for the time when PlayStation platformers were similar to the PS2 era, it might be best for you to leave this page right away.
In a quick fire interview with Ben Hanson from MinnMax, Sucker Punch creative director Nate Fox has said his team wouldn’t be all that impressed if it was tasked with working on a new Sly Cooper next.
If hypothetically asked about the number of people in the studio who’d be enthusiastic about continuing the stealth platforming series, he approximately guessed it would be around 10%.
“It’s been a long time since Sly Cooper came out,” Fox underlined in response to Hanson’s groans.

It’s true that it’s been quite some time since the last Sucker Punch game was released – all the way back in 2005, which is now 20 years ago.
It’s worth noting that Sanzaru Games, an outside studio, eventually unveiled Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time in 2013, after initially working on it in secret to gain approval from Sucker Punch. While we found the game enjoyable overall, it has garnered a somewhat divided response among fans.
Although we strongly believe that Sly Cooper stands out among the platforming characters of the PS2 era, we struggle to envision a situation where a new installment of the series would be developed. It appears that Sucker Punch Productions, having achieved great success with Ghost of Tsushima, has shifted its focus away from the Sly Cooper franchise.
While we hold a deep affection for these classic gaming franchises, it’s debatable that Sony should preserve every series it manages in perpetuity. The essence of PlayStation lies in its ability to evolve and redefine itself with each new era, allowing for fresh takes on beloved games.
