heading into its first season finale, mysteries introduced in the intense pilot episode of Suits LA are gradually being unraveled – however, the spinoff seems to create even more questions stemming from Ted Black’s betrayal. Stephen Amell stars as a key character in the series opposite Josh McDermitt, who plays Stuart Lane, a former business partner and friend. The West Coast adaptation began with Stuart making a surprising move by aligning with Ted’s ex-girlfriend, Samantha Railsback (Rachelle Goulding), leading to Ted and his law firm employees – including Erica Rollins (Lex Scott Davis) and initially Rick Dodsen (Bryan Greenberg) – being left to pick up the pieces.
The storyline of Suits LA became increasingly complex and confusing, as it alternated between unnecessary plot twists in both the present and past timelines. As new challenges emerged in the contemporary setting with criminal cases and office restructuring, the insights into the past provided by Suits LA grew more unclear. Despite concluding its main story arc involving mob boss John Pellegrini (Anthony Azizi), the sequence of events remained ambiguous at best. The inconsistent blend of past explanations with present conflicts may have contributed to Suits LA’s low ratings, and this disjointedness could potentially harm the overall series.
Ted’s Flashback In Suits LA Episode 11 Revealed He Only Stayed In New York For Eddie
His Brother’s Death Will Be A Major Turning Point
In the flashbacks of ‘Suits LA’ and its contemporary storylines, Ted’s bond with his elder brother, Eddie (played by Carson A. Egan), plays a crucial role. Eddie’s spectral appearance in ‘Suits LA’ was an unexpected twist from the start, as he appeared to engage in full conversations with Ted even after his death during the first episode. Initially appearing as a typical character, Eddie seems almost hallucinatory in the current timeline, guiding Ted through difficult situations in ‘Suits LA’. However, Eddie’s demise in ‘Suits LA’ sets off the series’ main events.
In the eleventh episode of Suits LA, following the resolution of the Pellegrini case, Ted and Eddie travel to California to attend Stuart’s bachelor party. Despite Ted and Samantha’s rocky past, which dates back to their breakup in 2010 New York, Eddie persuades them to spend the day together. As they catch up, Ted playfully teases Stuart about trying to convince him to move to LA. Samantha flirtatiously asks if he would consider it, but Ted reveals that he can’t leave Eddie. The events of Suits LA episode 11 make it clear that Ted’s love for his brother was the only factor keeping him in New York; after Eddie’s passing, Ted is no longer tied to the city.
Ted & Samantha’s Friendly Conversation In The Flashback Makes Suits LA Episode 1’s Betrayal Even More Confusing
The Exes Seemed To Be On Good Terms
The flashback in episode 11 of Suits LA revealed more than just the reason behind Ted’s cross-country move; it also showed that despite the tumultuous breakup depicted in episode 6, Ted and Samantha appeared surprisingly cordial when Ted eventually visited the West Coast. This amicable behavior was nothing short of astonishing, given the dramatic conflict arising from Ted’s botched proposal plans and Samantha’s unexpected job offer. The flashbacks suggested that Samantha may have been encouraging Ted to consider moving to LA, implying a willingness on her part to reconsider their relationship.
In the first episode of Suits LA, it was Samantha who found herself at the center of a shocking turn of events: Ted being coldly excluded from their merger agreement. Initially, Samantha might have seemed like just an old flame with lingering resentment in Suits LA. But now that we’ve seen Ted and Samantha acting cordial towards each other as far back as 2010, there appears to be a significant gap in the story that needs to be filled by the spinoff. This missing piece will help us understand what drove Samantha to aid in such a cruel act of betrayal against her former boyfriend.
Suits LA Needs To Justify Its Big Pilot Twist (But Can It?)
The Spinoff Already Feels Like It’s Backtracking
In episode 1 of Suits LA, Stuart’s betrayal of Ted was an electrifying opening, but the spinoff hasn’t effectively explained why it was essential. Instead of positioning Samantha and Stuart as antagonists by colluding against Ted, the spinoff opted for giving them compassionate storylines. A more logical starting point could have been Samantha and Stuart establishing a competing law firm to Ted, but the freshman drama jumped into the twist prematurely without properly setting up its foundation first. This hasty plot twist at the beginning of Suits LA appears superfluous.
As the second season of “Suits LA” remains uncertain, there’s limited time for the spinoff to address its major unresolved issues. It’s possible that Ted’s actions might justify Samantha’s deceit, but “Suits LA” is rapidly running out of opportunity to provide an explanation, let alone a satisfying one, about their past.
