‘Super Mario Galaxy’ Is 2026’s Biggest Movie as It Scares off ‘The Mummy’ Reboot

The box office results for the weekend of April 17-19, 2026 are in, and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie from Universal is still number one. The film has been the top earner for three weeks now, bringing in another $35 million in the US and Canada. With nearly $750 million earned worldwide, it’s already the highest-grossing movie of the year.

The sci-fi film Project Hail Mary is a strong contender for one of the year’s biggest hits, landing in second place. Starring Ryan Gosling and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the movie earned another $20 million in North America over the past five weeks, bringing its worldwide total to over $570 million. Currently, it’s the third-highest-grossing film of the year, trailing only The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Pegasus 3.

Rounding out the top three is a new release, The Mummy, directed by Lee Cronin. This updated take on the classic Universal monster movie stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, and May Calamawy. It earned $13.5 million domestically and over $34 million worldwide in its opening weekend.

Okay, so I checked the box office numbers, and Zendaya and Robert Pattinson’s new movie, The Drama – it’s a really interesting mix of romance and suspense, by the way – brought in almost $5 million this week. That puts its total earnings over $80 million worldwide! Further down the list, Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page are starring in a super sweet romcom called You, Me & Tuscany, directed by Kat Coiro, and it made just under $4 million domestically this week. It’s a nice, easy watch when you need a break from all the thrillers.

Here’s a look at the top 10 movies in the US for the weekend of April 17th to 19th, ranked by how much money they made.
