Superboy’s Mentor Is Not Who You’d Think (and He’s a Surprising Threat)

In the current storyline of “Action Comics,” Clark Kent’s early days as Superboy are being narrated. Regrettably, things aren’t going smoothly for the Steel Boy. His secret identity was swiftly unmasked by his teacher, Mr. Blake, who turns out to be the long-overlooked superhero Captain Comet. Unbeknownst to Clark and his family, Captain Comet has been observing Superboy for some time, and he intends to have a greater impact on the young hero – whether it’s beneficial or not. The situation is murky, as Captain Comet’s intentions are far from pure, and they don’t exactly inspire confidence. Clark better get up to speed quickly, because Captain Comet has his sights set on Superboy.

Surprising Revelations

At the Kent’s home, Mr. Blake unexpectedly arrived and directly inquired if Clark was actually Superboy. Since this was an unprecedented situation, Clark chose a less-than-optimal response and questioned whether Blake worked for the government.

With that strongly suggesting his suspicions were correct, Blake unveiled himself as none other than Captain Comet, a mutant boasting powers akin to Clark’s, supplemented with psychic abilities such as clairvoyance. The last time superheroes were seen was decades ago, making the sudden appearance of one all the more surprising. However, Blake didn’t come to discuss himself. Instead, he warned Clark that he seemed reckless and needed assurance he could trust him. He reminisced about other young heroes from various corners of the universe, each story ending tragically due to their inexperience. The storyteller, present-day Superman, observed how every detail Blake disclosed should have been warning signs. Captain Comet promised to chat with Clark soon before disappearing.

Feeling pretty bummed after Captain Comet’s harsh words and an awful morning, I had hoped that my school day would just be filled with covert glances at Lana Lang. But hey, a guy can’t always catch a break, right? Comet made my life miserable throughout the class, and when it finally ended, my usual bully saw fit to make things even worse for me. I was this close to losing it and pushing Braverman, but managed to fly off before I completely lost control.

I had planned to vent some frustration by blasting through a mountain, but Captain Comet snatched me from the air and forced me into a lesson instead. A swarm of locusts was about to descend upon Smallville, so now I was wondering how on earth Superboy was going to keep them at bay. Before I could even ask any questions, Comet vanished, leaving me alone with the insect horde.

Superboy’s Problems Keep Getting Bigger

Initially, Superboy attempted to disperse them using a powerful sonic clap, but it only caused a brief confusion among the insects. Fearing he might incinerate Smallville’s crops, Superboy recalled that locusts were particularly sensitive to high-pitched sounds. With his extraordinary ability of supersonic whistling, he stunned all the bugs and flew at great speed, creating a slipstream to carry them away. He navigated the swarm back towards cooler temperatures where they transformed once again into normal grasshoppers. Excited about his first victory of the day, Superboy remained unaware that Captain Comet and General Lane were secretly observing him, deciding that he posed a potential threat requiring further action.

In this action-packed film, it’s evident that the young Superboy is caught in a web of secrets far beyond his comprehension. The government and Captain Comet seem to view him as a menace, even planning to neutralize him. Yet, if he truly was a threat, one would think Comet could simply reveal Superboy’s identity, ending this ordeal swiftly. However, there are signs that not everything is as it appears. The enigma surrounding the sudden disappearance of superheroes years ago seems to be creeping back into the storyline. Is Captain Comet a foe bent on Superboy’s demise, a misguided mentor who fears his power, or someone with a hidden agenda concerning the legal status of superheroes, striving towards a goal that conflicts with Superboy’s presence? I have a feeling that contrary to expectations, Captain Comet may not be an enemy but rather a catalyst for events much larger than Superboy could have imagined.
