I’m so excited to finally get a first glimpse at the upcoming movie! It’s amazing to see the star of House of the Dragon stepping into the role of this iconic DC hero. The teaser really shows us what she’ll look like outside of the bright, colorful world we’re used to, and gives us a taste of the new world the director is building. It’s a totally different vibe!
A short preview has been released ahead of the full trailer, which is coming on Thursday, December 11th. This initial footage suggests that the new Supergirl movie will deliver on DC Studios’ promise of each film being unique, unlike Marvel movies. The clip opens with Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El (Supergirl) sitting in a barren field. She’s wearing everyday clothes – jeans, a coat, and sunglasses – instead of her traditional costume (which was briefly shown in the Superman trailer). She appears surprisingly calm as an unidentified spaceship lands nearby.
Even from this short preview, it’s clear that Milly Alcock’s Supergirl will be a very different character from David Corenswet’s Superman. This is a chance to move beyond the common misconception that she’s simply a female version of her cousin. Unlike Superman’s hopeful nature, Supergirl seems much more laid-back and even a little cynical, appearing completely unfazed by her surroundings. The show also has a different visual style, trading Superman’s bright colors for a more muted, dusty look. However, since Supergirl will be traveling through space and visiting other planets, that aesthetic could evolve.
‘Supergirl’ Is Scheduled to Land in Theaters on June 26, 2026
I’m so excited for the new Supergirl movie! It’s going to be the second film launching the revamped DC Universe, and I’m really impressed with the team they’ve assembled. Craig Gillespie, who directed I, Tonya and Cruella, is directing, and Ana Nogueira wrote the script. The cast is fantastic – Milly Alcock is taking on the role of Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, and she’ll be joined by Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem, David Krumholtz as Supergirl’s dad, Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as her mother, Alura In-Ze. Plus, Jason Momoa is going to be Lobo, which is amazing, and Krypto the Superdog will even be in it! I can’t wait to see it.
The upcoming Supergirl movie will likely mirror the storyline from the comic book “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” by Tom King, where Supergirl embarks on a cosmic journey driven by revenge. As part of the first phase of the new DC Universe, Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, Supergirl is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026.
