Supergirl Trailer Release Confirmed With First Footage

A sneak peek at the upcoming Supergirl movie has been released before the full trailer drops. This comes after James Gunn successfully launched his new DC Universe earlier this year with Superman. That film introduced a fresh take on the DC world, focusing on established heroes instead of origin stories. Now, fans are getting a first look at what’s next, including Supergirl, which is scheduled for release in 2026. This version of Superman’s cousin is expected to have a tougher, more rebellious personality than Superman himself, promising a unique and different feel from Gunn’s first DC film.

We’ve already learned some things about the new Supergirl project, but many details were still secret. Actress Milly Alcock will be playing Kara, the role of Supergirl. This isn’t the first time Supergirl has appeared on the big screen – the original Supergirl movie came out in 1984, though it wasn’t very well-received. It was originally planned as a continuation of the Christopher Reeve Superman films. A digitally created version of that Supergirl briefly appeared with Reeve’s Superman in the 2023 film The Flash. Now, this new version of the character will be a key part of the fresh start for the DC Universe.

Supergirl Trailer Releases This Week

The first glimpse of the upcoming Supergirl series has been released. It shows Kara, seemingly relaxed, waiting at a remote bus stop. She’s wearing sunglasses and a trench coat when a spaceship lands nearby, stirring up dust and wind. The teaser confirms the full trailer will be released this week, likely on Thursday, December 11th. This timing is similar to the release of the first Superman trailer last year. It’s expected this trailer will be shown before the Avatar: Fire and Ash trailer, which will also include a preview of Avengers: Doomsday and a new look at Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

The upcoming trailer for Supergirl will not only give us a preview of the movie’s overall style, but will likely be the first time we see Jason Momoa as Lobo – a role he’s been eager to take on. Following the end of the previous DC film series, Momoa finished his run as Aquaman and quickly signed on to play the intergalactic bounty hunter. The movie is expected to be one of the biggest releases of 2026, and this will be a thrilling first look.

The new Supergirl movie is scheduled to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments and join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum!
