Supergirl’s Krem of the Yellow Hills, Explained

I’m so hyped for the new DCU! I’m especially excited to see Milly Alcock as Supergirl – she’s going to rock the cape! From what I’ve heard, the movie is really taking inspiration from the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic storyline, and they’re even including one of the main villains from it, Krem of the Yellow Hills. It sounds like they’re staying pretty true to the source material, which is awesome!

Krem of the Yellow Hills is a character who first appeared in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic, and many DC fans might not know much about him. Here’s a breakdown of everything you should know about Krem before the movie comes out in 2026.

Krem of the Yellow Hills Is an Agent of the Monarch

In Woman of Tomorrow, Krem of the Yellow Hills arrives at the home of a family in a remote village. He pretends to be a loyal investigator, testing their allegiance to the King. However, Krem is actually a bandit and pirate disguising himself as a royal agent.

Krem told a joke about the King, carefully watching for a response. When the King didn’t laugh, Krem jumped to the conclusion that the King didn’t respect the royal family. Enraged, Krem stabbed and killed the King. He then ran away, leaving the murder weapon behind, and mistakenly thought he would get away with the crime.

He didn’t anticipate that the woman he wronged would seek revenge, ultimately teaming up with Supergirl. Now, Krem isn’t just being pursued by a daughter seeking justice, but also by a Kryptonian. Krem is consistently shown as a coward: he enjoys hurting others, but crumbles when confronted with an equal opponent.

He depends on magical objects, such as the Mordru Globe, believing they’ll help him win. However, these items ultimately aren’t strong enough. When Kara finally faces him, she banishes Krem to the Phantom Zone as punishment for his actions.

Okay, so here’s the really messed up part about Krem. It wasn’t about some grand loyalty to the King or anything like that. He killed the guy just because he didn’t laugh at his joke! Seriously. Reading Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, it’s clear Krem isn’t some ideological warrior or following orders. He’s just a straight-up cruel person, and that’s what drove him to do it.

Krem of the Yellow Hills Is a Major Villain in Supergirl

Krem of the Yellow Hills is predicted to play a significant role in the new Supergirl movie, and some fans think he’s already visible in the first trailer. He’s expected to be a main villain, mirroring his comic book origins as Ruthye’s father and eventually becoming the target of a hunt led by both Ruthye and Supergirl, who will team up in a surprising alliance.

It’s not yet confirmed if Krem will be the main villain, but he’s definitely important to the connection between Kara and Ruthye, helping them grow closer. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, and he’s no stranger to big franchises and comic book adaptations, having appeared in films like The Old Guard for Netflix and starring in Django.

Despite a successful career, the role of Supergirl seems like a significant challenge for the actor, and could really elevate his profile within the DC Universe. While the name ‘Krem of the Yellow Hills’ doesn’t immediately sound intimidating, he’s quickly becoming a character to watch as the movie’s release nears.

It’s still uncertain how Krem will interact with new characters like Lobo, who weren’t in the original comics. However, to stay true to the character fans love to despise, the movie needs to show Krem as both a coward and someone who is genuinely cruel.
