Superman Breakout Star Reacts to Rumored DC TV Series

With the buzz and massive earnings persisting following the blockbuster premiere of Superman (2025), one fact is indisputable: fans are eager for more Mister Terrific. Actor Edi Gathegi introduced the authentic comic book version of this extraordinary superhero in James Gunn’s masterpiece, outshining others in the corporate-backed “Justice Gang”. Although playing a character who holds 14 PhDs, is an Olympian, and self-made millionaire might seem intimidating, Gathegi portrayed Mister Terrific with an unmistakable sense of style and a lot of emotion… even when he didn’t openly display it on the sleeve of his famous Fair Play jacket.

Currently, there’s no ongoing solo project featuring Mister Terrific in the DC Universe development schedule. However, it seems that situation might be about to change, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. They suggest that both Mister Terrific and Jimmy Olsen (played by Skyler Gisondo) are being considered for their own TV spin-offs. When asked about a potential spinoff, actor Gathegi expressed his enthusiasm, stating he would “absolutely love to slip back into the character’s shoes again. I’ve grown quite fond of this character.

Even though Gathegi expressed his enthusiasm, he was equally cautious to emphasize that Gunn’s vision and grand scheme for the DCU were crucial. “If they believe that Mister Terrific is the ideal way to carry on this narrative, I will be thankful. If not, then I understand it’s for the story’s greater good.

Mister Teriffic’s Tragic Past Makes Him the Perfect Candidate for His Own TV Show

Through Superman, many cinema-goers were acquainted with Mister Terrific and his somewhat grumbly disposition, but this character is far more than just stylish attire, a black mask, and “t-spheres”. Originally created in 1997 by John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake, Mister Terrific, or Michael Holt, was a child prodigy who became an Olympic decathlete before amassing his own fortune. Tragedy struck when he lost his wife and child in a car crash, causing him to contemplate suicide. The DC hero Spectre persuaded him to channel his intellect, strength, and wealth for good instead, leading to Holt taking over the mantle of Mister Terrific from Terry Sloan, the Golden Age hero. Eventually, he even served as the chairman of the Justice Society of America in DC Comics’s JSA series.

The combination of Mister Terrific’s battles with sorrow and loss, along with his unique skillset, promises an exceptional television show. Given Gathegi’s previous success in portraying intricate characters on notable series such as “For All Mankind,” “StartUp,” and “The Blacklist,” he would undoubtedly shine in the leading role.

In simpler terms, Gathegi expressed that Mister Terrific isn’t solely defined by his past losses, but he doesn’t disregard them either. He believes this very struggle is what drives his genius. Furthermore, it’s the reason behind Mister Terrific’s strong stance on ethical AI and moral standards in general. His principles are as solid as Superman’s.

Alongside the possibility of being both a deep character exploration and an exciting adventure series, a Mister Terrific show could continue from where Gunn’s film ended, sparking curiosity among both young and old viewers – much like Superman encourages people to view kindness as “rebellious.” As Gathegi stated, Mister Terrific embodies coolness due to his self-assured nature. The potential exists to establish new standards for children, particularly Black and those often labeled as smart, nerdy, or quiet. Mister Terrific serves as a role model, inspiring these individuals to embrace their uniqueness, understanding that their intelligence is their true power.

Given the strength of the message, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if Gunn were currently developing a Mister Terrific series at this very moment.
