While promoting his new sci-fi movie, Mercy, Chris Pratt shared that he auditioned for many superhero roles before getting cast as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. He recently told Josh Horowitz about some of those early auditions that didn’t work out.
Before landing his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Pratt auditioned for several other superhero parts. He submitted self-taped auditions for both Superman and Captain America, and even tried out for a supporting role in a Thor movie, he revealed.
He explained that most of his auditions didn’t lead to anything further, stating he never even received a return call. When asked if he’d made it past the initial stages for any roles, Pratt clarified that he did audition for the role of Thor’s sidekick.
Chris Pratt shared a story about auditioning for the role of Superman in Zack Snyder’s film. He remembered filming his audition tape at his mother’s home in Everett, Washington, and jokingly admitted he wouldn’t have cast himself! He also recounted playfully sending director James Gunn a photoshopped image of himself as Batman, to which Gunn simply replied with a laugh, making it clear Pratt won’t be taking on the role of the Dark Knight anytime soon.
