James Gunn’s Superman movie is packed to capacity. This fresh start for the DC Universe presents not only the Man of Steel (David Corenswet), but also a multitude of characters, including his colleagues at The Daily Planet newspaper in Metropolis where Clark Kent works as a modest reporter. Additionally, it introduces Superman’s other work associates, his fellow superheroes who form the Justice Gang team. Furthermore, there are Lex Luthor’s (Nicholas Hoult) shady business contacts, including Ultraman and The Authority’s Engineer (María Gabriela de Faría).
As I scroll through the vast landscape of social media, it’s clear that a new face pops up everywhere. And thankfully, Reece Feldman, a content creator famously known as Guy With a Movie Camera on TikTok and Instagram, has stepped into the spotlight with a charming sitcom-style introduction reminiscent of classic shows like Full House. The video, which you can find below, features Jesse Frederick’s iconic “Everywhere You Look” theme, making it an enjoyable throwback to our cherished 90’s television.
With Clark Kent (Corenswet) and fearless reporter Lois Lane (Brosnahan), the team at The Daily Planet also features young, boyish photographer and Superman’s friend Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), columnist Cat Grant who loves gossip, sports writer Steve Lombard, and, remember, he’s not the boss! – Editor-in-Chief Perry White (Wendell Pierce).
Despite not appearing in the video, there’s a group of superheroes known as the Justice Gang, who are backed financially by tech entrepreneur Max Lord (played by Sean Gunn). This team consists of Green Lantern Guy Gardner (portrayed by Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), a genius inventor.
Moreover, the film includes characters such as Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), also known as the Element Man; government official Rick Flag Sr., portrayed by Frank Grillo; Luthor’s associates, which encompass Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio), who loves taking selfies, and her henchman Otis (Terence Rosemore); it also hints at the appearance of Ultraman (to be unveiled) and Sydney Happerson (Stephen Blackehart). Lastly, the film showcases Clark’s foster parents, the Kents, played by Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell.
According to Gunn, viewers of the Superman movie will not get confused, as he has shown the film to numerous individuals and found that they are not perplexed about its plot. This knowledge, he stated to Esquire Philippines, comes from firsthand experience.
Gunn compared Superman to the film Oppenheimer, directed by Christopher Nolan, which boasted a large cast but centered on a select few characters. “In typical movies, we have our main characters, and Superman is undeniably the protagonist of Superman, and he has both work colleagues and playmates,” Gunn clarified. “However, it’s unclear if the Justice League are his playmates or if his coworkers at the Daily Planet are his workmates or playmates. But those are the two distinct groups of friends he has in different spheres. And even though they have emblems on their costumes or superpowers, it doesn’t make them any less like ordinary supporting characters in any film.
He added, “I believe Oppenheimer takes on three times more speaking parts compared to us. Therefore, I assume they’re content.
DC Studios’ Superman soars into theaters July 11. Tickets are now on sale.
