Superman Sequel Gets a Disappointing Update (& It Doesn’t Make Sense)

Despite the movie receiving good feedback, it seems that DC Studios doesn’t have immediate plans for a sequel. According to an article in Variety, while David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, who starred in Superman, have options for sequels as per their contracts, other projects appear to be more pressing than another Superman film. The DCU’s reboot of Wonder Woman and Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, both eagerly anticipated by Warner Bros. Discovery, are scheduled for release.

According to Variety’s report, it seems that Warner Bros. doesn’t plan to announce a sequel for Corenswet and Brosnahan’s project anytime soon. Instead, they are focusing on speeding up the production of a Wonder Woman film. Additionally, they are excited about Matt Reeves’ recently submitted screenplay draft for The Batman sequel.

James Gunn has been secretive about the possibility of a Superman sequel, hinting during the lead-up to the movie’s premiere that he was working on something potentially connected, yet stating it wasn’t strictly a “Superman 2.” On social media, when asked directly about a direct sequel, Gunn questioned what people meant by Superman 2. These remarks have fueled speculation that Corenswet’s next appearance as Superman may be in a crossover event rather than a traditional standalone sequel.

DC Studios has two films lined up for next year: Supergirl and Clayface. Excitement for Supergirl is building, with director James Gunn already unveiling the first teaser poster, offering fans a sneak peek at leading actress Milly Alcock’s costume. As of now, no DCU movies have been officially scheduled beyond 2026.
