On September 13th, 2025, it will be 20 years since the premiere of the long-lasting and cherished science fiction horror drama series created by Eric Kripke, “Supernatural.” Although the show concluded in 2020, its dedicated fanbase managed to spawn a vast multimedia universe. This expansion includes several spin-offs (including an anime), four comic book series, and a rewatch podcast that launched in 2022. The ongoing discussions about reviving “Supernatural” have been just as tenacious, and fans of the show can look forward to some positive developments.
To coincide perfectly with the anniversary, it’s been revealed that Dynamite Entertainment is bringing back the thrilling escapades of Sam and Dean Winchester (portrayed by Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles) in a brand new comic book series, set to debut in October 2025. As reported by Bleeding Cool, Supernatural #1 will be penned by Greg Pak with artwork by Eder Messias. The storylines will boast covers by Clayton Crain, David Cousens, and Messias, while every Supernatural comic issue will come equipped with a “special photo cover,” showcasing the cherished cast of the 15-season television series.
It seems that the upcoming Supernatural comic series will occur during the time gap between Seasons 1 and 2. Given that Season 1 and Season 2 of Supernatural ended with a nail-biting cliffhanger, leaving the Winchesters in a life-or-death struggle, it’s intriguing to find out exactly when this new comic book series takes place once its first issue is released.
Join Dean and Sam as they travel across small-town America, investigating supernatural misdeeds! This new story, written by Greg Pak (known for his work on “Darth Vader” and “Lilo & Stitch”) and illustrated by Eder Messias (“Sam Wilson: Captain America”), takes place between the first and second seasons of the famous TV show. It delves back into where the dark magic originated and uncovers a chilling new danger that the brothers must confront before they can track down the demon who murdered their mother.
In the initial edition, the team of monster hunters will need to discover who is causing a string of enigmatic fires in a dilapidated industrial town, with the blazes starting at a Windler Industries factory and later spreading to some of its employees. However, tracking down the evil force behind these supernatural infernos might not be as simple as it appears, particularly when Steff Windler, the CEO who seems suspiciously well-prepared, decides to intervene personally!
It’s not the first instance that Supernatural has persisted in the comic realm. Back in 2007, a six-issue graphic novel series titled “Supernatural: Origins” was released by DC Comics’ WildStorm Productions. This series was penned by Geoff Johns and Supernatural’s executive producer, Peter Johnson. The prequel comics were then carried forward in DC’s “Supernatural: Rising Son” six-issue series the following year, and this was followed by “Supernatural: Beginning’s End” in 2010. In 2012, another six issues, titled “Supernatural: The Dogs of Edinburgh” (or “Supernatural: Caledonia”), were published, with a setting in the UK.
Every season of Supernatural is available to stream on Netflix and to buy on Prime Video.
