Just Cause 3, originally released in 2015, is an open-world action game known for its chaotic fun. Many players remember it from the Xbox 360 days. Developed by Avalanche Studios, the game lets you explore a huge world using a wingsuit and causing massive destruction. It still has a dedicated community on PC who create mods, and one recent mod is the largest one yet.
It’s noteworthy that Avalanche Studios, the developers of the cancelled Xbox game Contraband, have seemingly updated Just Cause 3, a game released nearly a decade ago.
Just Cause 3 on PC used to be frustrating for many players because of Denuvo, a security system designed to prevent piracy and modifications. Now, it appears Denuvo has been completely removed from the game.
Denuvo no more

Denuvo is a security system game developers use to protect their games from being illegally copied and shared. It’s built directly into the game’s core files and works closely with how the game operates on computers, making it hard to remove or bypass.
Although stopping piracy is usually a good thing, Denuvo has often caused problems. Many PC games using it have experienced performance drops and difficulties for players who like to modify their games, leading to a lot of complaints.
It’s been almost ten years since Just Cause 3 came out, and the game recently received a quiet update on Steam. After the update, references to Denuvo, a piracy prevention system, have disappeared from the game’s Steam page, indicating it’s likely no longer being used. Reddit users have also noticed the game’s main file is now much smaller.
This update has temporarily caused problems with some mods and tools that work with the game’s files. Developers are working to fix these issues, and many players will likely find that removing the Denuvo anti-tamper technology results in a smoother, more reliable game on their computers.
I’ve been wondering about these surprise updates to older games. Do they really get people excited to revisit them, or would everyone prefer developers just concentrate on making completely new games? I’m curious to know what others think – are you planning on jumping back into the world of Rico Rodriguez and causing some mayhem, or are you happy to leave it as a fond memory?
