As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation when it comes to the upcoming Switch successor. Take-Two Interactive has been a reliable partner in delivering some of my favorite games on Nintendo platforms, from the thrilling XCOM series to the immersive worlds of Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.
Take-Two Interactive has been a major third-party backer of the Nintendo Switch, with games like Civilization, XCOM, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands, and others thriving on Nintendo’s platform. It’s likely that there will be enhanced third-party support for the Switch’s successor in the future, and it looks like Take-Two will remain a key player in this area.
In an interview with GamesIndustry, when asked about the potential Switch 2, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed high confidence in Nintendo’s upcoming console by stating, “I never underestimate Nintendo.
In a different phrasing: The topic of Switch 2’s confirmed backward compatibility and if new games facing competition from older titles on another platform was brought up during the interview. Zelnick responded positively about backward compatibility, stating that it benefits Take-Two’s catalog overall, particularly since their labels consistently sell well.
He stated, “You’re constantly in competition with everything around you, as well as striving against your own self.” Additionally, maintaining backward compatibility benefits our catalog significantly, and we believe our catalog, in terms of sales per item, is unmatched within the industry.
For the year 2025, Take-Two Interactive has a jam-packed lineup of game releases including “Civilization 7”, “Borderlands 4”, “Mafia: The Old Country”, and the much-anticipated “Grand Theft Auto 6”. It’s intriguing to speculate if any of these games might also appear on the successor of the Nintendo Switch. Since “Civilization 7” is confirmed for release on the current Switch, we can expect it to be playable on the next console as well.
