Sydney Sweeney’s popular 2025 thriller, The Housemaid, is getting a sequel! This time, she’ll be starring alongside Kirsten Dunst, replacing Amanda Seyfried. The movie, based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, came out in December and tells the story of Millie, played by Sweeney, who discovers unsettling secrets while working for a rich family. The film was a huge financial success, earning nearly $400 million with a $35 million budget (according to Variety), which made another movie almost certain.
According to Deadline, Alex Wolff will reprise his role as Sweeney in The Housemaid’s Secret, the next installment based on Freida McFadden’s novels. Kirsten Dunst will join the cast, playing Wendy Garrick. The story follows Millie as she takes a job with the Garricks and becomes suspicious because she never sees Mrs. Garrick—only hears her crying and finds blood on her laundry. This leads Millie to investigate a guest room, uncovering shocking surprises and the twists McFadden is known for.
Get ready for another thrilling adventure with The Housemaid’s Secret! Director Paul Feig and writer Rebecca Sonnenshine are back for the sequel, and Michele Morrone will return as Enzo. If this new movie is as successful as the first, there’s a good chance The Housemaid could become a three-part series, as there are still more books in the original series to adapt.
The Housemaid Could Become a Movie Trilogy If Its Sequel Succeeds

Fans of Freida McFadden’s books are thrilled to hear about a sequel to The Housemaid, hinting at the possibility of a three-movie series if the second film does well. While the Housemaid book series currently has three installments, it’s unknown if McFadden will write more. Now that The Housemaid’s Secret has been approved for production, it’s likely The Housemaid Is Watching will also be adapted for the screen. Even if that doesn’t happen, fans of the books and thrillers have another project to anticipate. There’s no release date for The Housemaid’s Secret yet, but fans are eagerly awaiting updates.
