Sydney Sweeney Reacts to Taylor Swift Song in The Housemaid

Sydney Sweeney thinks The Housemaid did something good putting a Taylor Swift song in the film.

Taylor Swift’s song “I Did Something Bad” from her album Reputation is featured immediately after a surprising scene in the movie. Sydney, 28, called the song choice “so perfect” in an interview with her co-star Amanda Seyfried on December 19th.

“We were like, ‘We can’t lose this!'” Sydney told People of seeing the clip before the song had been confirmed. “We were like, ‘You have to keep this!'”

Sydney, who is dating music manager Scooter Braun—the man who bought and then sold Taylor Swift’s master recordings in 2019 and 2020—thinks Taylor’s widely popular music is perfect for the soundtrack.

“It brings every generation together,” Sydney said of Taylor’s song, “which is so fun.”

Amanda mentioned that she and her 9-year-old daughter, Nina, both really enjoy the same artist. Sydney thought it was wonderful that they shared this common interest, saying it was “so cool” that they could bond over music together.

Amanda, age 40, shared how thankful she is for that meaningful bond. She said when she heard Taylor’s song in the movie, she felt like she was transported back to being her daughter’s age.

Amanda described the reaction to Taylor Swift‘s music as overwhelmingly enthusiastic, saying, ‘We were just screaming with excitement!’ She explained that Taylor Swift’s songs have that kind of effect on people.

The film’s director, Paul Feig, agreed, describing the song as a truly empowering anthem.

As a lifestyle expert, I often deal with permissions and approvals, and let me tell you, securing rights to use popular music can be a real challenge! We really wanted to include a particular song, but I honestly doubted we’d get the go-ahead. Taylor Swift rarely approves clearances for her music, so I was prepared for a no.
