Sylvester Stallone is also planning a return to one of his famous roles, but fans might be a little disappointed. This week, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced he’s revisiting both the Conan the Barbarian and Predator series, and even has a script for a Commando sequel. Following that exciting news, Stallone revealed he’s bringing back Rambo, though his announcement doesn’t quite have the same impact.
Sylvester Stallone revealed on Instagram that he’s returning to the Rambo universe, but in a different role. He won’t be playing John Rambo himself this time. Instead, a new prequel titled John Rambo is in the works, focusing on Rambo’s experiences in Vietnam and the events that deeply affected him. Stallone will be an executive producer on the film and shared that he’s thrilled about bringing more action to fans.
What This Rambo Prequel Means For Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone might appear in the film, potentially to frame the story as something he’s recounting to another character. This would allow him to be credited in the cast and open the door for a new story with a younger group of actors. Currently, though, he’s only involved as an executive producer. That means he’s responsible for things like hiring the director, securing funding, and managing the overall production – but not acting in the movie.
The title of ‘executive producer’ can have different meanings. Often, it’s a way to attract funding – someone’s name is added to the film to help get it made, even if they aren’t involved in the actual production. For example, Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim are credited as executive producers on the new Zombies movie, but they probably didn’t have a hand in making it. Sylvester Stallone’s role on the upcoming Rambo film could be similar – simply lending his name to help the project get off the ground.
Sylvester Stallone is closely tied to the Rambo franchise, and it seems he’s taking a more active role in the new film. He may have even influenced the choices of the new lead actor, Noah Centineo, and the director, Jalmari Helander. Seeing him with a copy of the script suggests he’s involved beyond just lending his name to the project. For now, though, it’s likely he’ll primarily focus on mentioning and promoting the film as it gets closer to release.
